Rigid vs Flex vs Ultra Flex — Quick Guide

Rigid: Flat panels only — hoods, roofs, deck lids. Also great for rough-cutting body filler.

Flex: The everyday workhorse. Follows gentle curves while keeping a true surface. The 18" flex is the most used block on any car.

How to Clean Your Linear Blocks

A quick clean extends the life of your blocks and keeps them cutting flat.

I purchased 12” rigid and 12” ultra flex blocks and 3 different grits sticky paper 800, 1000, 1500. My biggest concern was the paper, I’ve used 3M wet dry paper and every time I’ve tried a different brand paper I’m always disappointed because the grit isn’t uniform, the Linear paper is fantastic in that regard and with the sticky back I waste less. With the blocks I have been blocking polyurethane clear to get the puddling or the waves out and I’m surprised at the difference it makes, I can see the low spots in the clear as I block. I use the ultra flex the most. The paper sticks to the blocks, I soak them in real hot water or carefully use the heat gun the wipe with 3m adhesive remover, kind of a pain but to me worth it. Customer service was prompt dealing with my package that was lost shipment. I bought the insurance, new product was shipped that day, very professional.

Although i haven't used the project yet as i made the purchase for an upcoming project, i ordered a couple of longer flexible ones as well as the 12 inch rigid one. When they came in, all 3 i purchased were flexible ones. I emailed them with the issue and promptly got a reply back saying the correct one would be shipped out to me. I asked if they would include a return tag and they said no, just keep the other one for my trouble. Great customer service is sometimes more valuable than a great product which they seem to be as well.

Nie Quality

Although I have attempted to make my own version of this with decent results, buying this blocking tool was a good choice. For the price that seemed higher than I feel comfortable with, it is the best choice to buy the "REAL DEAL". Comfortable to use and designed very well, not sure whether the Velcro version wouldn't have been better for my use. I like the little extra cushion but that might affect the end result. I'll know better after using this block for a while yet on a few jobs.
